What is the Federal Skilled Worker Program?

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is one of three federal programs managed through Express Entry. It is designed for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to become permanent residents of Canada.

Candidates are assessed using a points-based system and must score at least 67 out of 100 points to qualify. Once eligible, you enter the Express Entry pool where you're ranked by the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, you must meet these minimum requirements

Work Experience

1 year continuous skilled work in NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 in the past 10 years.

Language Proficiency

Minimum CLB 7 in English or French across all four abilities.

Education

Canadian credential or foreign credential with ECA assessment.

Proof of Funds

Sufficient funds to support yourself and family in Canada.

Points-Based Assessment

You must score at least 67 out of 100 points on the FSW selection factors grid, which includes:

  • Education (maximum 25 points)
  • Language skills (maximum 28 points)
  • Work experience (maximum 15 points)
  • Age (maximum 12 points)
  • Arranged employment in Canada (maximum 10 points)
  • Adaptability (maximum 10 points)
